God’s love for Israel – both the people and the land defies understanding.  Since the birth of the nation, we have consistently and continuously rebelled and rejected His love.  Nevertheless, His love is even MORE consistent and continuous.

Of course His love does not contradict His holiness.  Thus we see over the centuries times of discipline and great challenge.  We have been brought into the land and then expelled from it, only to be brought back in.

God’s plans and purposes will NOT be thwarted!

While God disciplines Israel for our sins against His love, He punishes other nations for their treatment of Israel!

I’ve been reading through the prophecies of Ezekiel.  Chapter 24 details God’s judgment against Israel.  But then Chapters 25-28 detail His judgment against the nations that surround her.

Joel 3:1-2 is another warning to the nations – DO NOT SCATTER THE PEOPLE, DO NOT DIVIDE THE LAND!

Consider the below illustration, with the “territories” shaded in the map of Israel.  I suggest this is a blatant political staement which flies in the face of God’s word.  I think of the words of Psalm 2:

Why do the nations conspire
and the peoples plot in vain?

The kings of the earth take their stand
and the rulers gather together
against the LORD
and against his Anointed One.

The One enthroned in heaven laughs;
the Lord scoffs at them.

As the National Day of Prayer approaches, let us all take God’s warning to heart and pray for the governments of the world to honor God’s plans and purposes for Israel.  The land and the people belong to Him.  Woe to any nation that touches the “apple of His eye.”
