Reflections on Novea’s Repair the Breach Israel Prayer Journey

How does one reflect on a trip to Israel, on one’s first trip? My heart was overwhelmed with the sheer joy of feet on the ground in Israel! But as an intercessor, I’ve left my days of pure tourism behind. I can no longer think just in terms of sights, of beauty and of history. Now travel takes on a bigger panorama of the glory of creation, the beauty God desires to unveil through His plans and purposes, and the role of history in God’s timeline.

I commune with God as I travel asking how I can respond through intercession in partnership with His plan for the ages. There is nothing closer to the heart of God than His people Israel, redemption and restoration on a global scale. In Abraham’s seed all the nations of the Earth are ordained to be blessed. (Genesis 22:18) And yet, like the hire of Balaam, the nations have succumbed to denigrate Israel as hell continually attempts to block the destiny of God’s people. Word curses abound.

Our stated intercessory mission was to repair the breach, to bless the people of Israel through acknowledgement of historic accusation and condemnation against the Jewish race, especially by the Christian church. While each of us covered this in our own way, more openly we blessed Israel making declarations and decrees sourced from the Word of God, sending angels on assignment to fulfill His word in celebration of God’s faithfulness.

While the people of Israel may think of security and restoration in terms of their own prosperity, Kingdom perspective sees Israel’s destiny as even greater, as a means through which to bless all nations. In the midst of very real security concerns and zealotry, Israel’s role to bless the nations in tangible ways can be obscured by politics.

Our geographic placement near the border with Gaza, descending from the region of the Golan Heights, travel into the West Bank, crossing the border into Jordan, and lastly gazing from the Gulf of Aqaba towards the shorelines of Egypt, Jordan and Israel accentuated for me just how important it is for Israel to walk in the fullness of her destiny.

While I desire for every nation to prosper, Israel’s greatest prosperity lies in her preservation and presentation of Messiah, the King of kings who lived among her, died among her and was resurrected for all, that His Name might be proclaimed in all the Earth that we might all serve God shoulder to shoulder with Israel.

“The Lord says: ‘It is too small a thing for you to be my servant to restore the tribes of Jacob and bring back those of Israel I have kept. I will also make you a light for the Gentiles, that you may bring my salvation to the ends of the earth.’” (Isaiah 49:6)

My biggest “take away” from Israel was the reminder of the destiny few acknowledge — not statehood, not Jerusalem recognized as capital, not wealth, not prestige —but for this great and powerful nation to be a light, to bring glory to His Name as ALL the nations come and worship, blessed through Abraham. While Israel and so much of the church focuses on one piece of Israel’s restorative narrative as it pertains to land use, I pray for the pouring out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. Imagine the impact a visitation of grace of that magnitude could have upon regional politics! I pray Israel might look on Christ, the one they have pierced, and mourn for Him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for Him as one grieves for a firstborn son adopting His passion for every tribe, every tongue and every nation. (Zechariah 12:10) It is then and only then Jerusalem will experience true security and the glory of the LORD will be revealed, and all mankind together will see it. (Zechariah 14:11, Isaiah 40:5)
