When and how to celebrate the Sabbath tends to be the subject of many discussions if not disagreements. If, when and how to celebrate the Sabbath are all issues of contention. But God meant the Sabbath to be a time of peace and unity. The Sabbath was and remains a unique day on God’s calendar. Perhaps we could end our discussions by remembering what the Sabbath is all about. The Sabbath was designed by God to be a time of rest, restoration and rejoicing as people ceased from ALL work and fixed their minds and hearts on Him.
- The Sabbath was a time of rest when all labor ceased of both man and beast
- The Sabbath was a time of restoration when body and soul could be refreshed
- The Sabbath was a time of rejoicing for God’s continued faithfulness
Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath and bids us to come into His presence where we can find rest for our bodies, souls and spirit. Perhaps many arguments could be avoided if we made several distinctions:
