PASSOVER

The feast of Passover commemorates God’s redemption of Israel from the bondage of Egypt. The event is recorded in the opening chapters of Exodus and echoes throughout all of Scripture. Historically and traditionally the celebration of Passover encompasses three of God’s feasts, but more accurately commemorates the night in Egypt when the Lord passed over every house where there was the sign of the blood of the lamb.
“Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you aver. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. (Exodus 12:13)
The Passover is the second most important event in the history of Israel, preceded only by the Incarnation of Jesus - Israel’s Messiah. Through the Passover event God revealed:
- His character
- His memorial name
- His plan of redemption
- His choice of Israel
The Passover was such a defining moment on God’s calendar, that it signaled the beginning of the year (Exodus 12:1) in the spring when life bursts through the cold winter ground.
