A Response to "The Joshua Generation"

Jul 9, 2007

Friends,

Below is an excerpt from Reuven Doron's latest letter. He has expressed clearly a very important Biblical principle. There seems to be a misconception in the Body today that somehow God has anointed a younger generation in a such way that they need to be freed from the hindrances of us, the older generation.

I too was at the One Thing Jerusalem Conference and did rejoice at the passion and excitement and even committments made by so many of our young people.

What was disturbing however was the separation between the generations - even in the seating arrangements. Twice speakers made an open altar call and we older ones were prevented from going forward. Repeatedly I heard the comment, "I never knew I was old until coming here."

As a spiritual mother, nay grandmother, in Israel I am very concerned as I watch these young people being so fired up that they're running ahead of God, refusing to listen to or to even seek counsel.

Having been there myself I understand youthful passions and desire for independence. I am of the "Mother, I'd rather do it myself" generation.

But we must look at what the Bible teaches. Do we have any evidence that God anointed one generation over another? Neither Moses or Elijah stepped back to allow Joshua or Elisha to move into their "anointed and ordained place." The elders remained very much on the scene and in leadership until God Himself removed them from this earth.

Truly we have a lot to learn about being inter-generational. We surely need to open communication channels and learn from each other. Being with the young people keeps my on my toes (aka knees). Their ideas keep me inspired and challenged. But the greatest blessing for me at the conference was when two young men said to me, "We've been talking and agree that we want to adopt you as our spiritual Mom." Knowing that eventually all the hype will fade from their memory these two recognized the value of having spiritual elders.

Friends, let us not abdicate our responsiblity AND spiritual authority or we will be doing our children a great disservice and might even be found being disobedient to God.

Lovingly submitted, j

ONE FAMILY UNDER GOD

We are blessed to be alive today; to cheer for our children, to cover and bless them as they move on with God into what is shaping up to be a most extraordinary and fantastic move of His Spirit. But they are not moving on independently; we are all in this together. The only revival that is sustainable is the one that is trans-generational and which is anchored in the family unit.

As the Apostle prayed, "For this reason, I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man; so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fulness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen." Ephesians 3:14-21.

We are one nation in God, one family under heaven who is called by One Name. And though the young warriors are being equipped, anointed and commissioned to take the battle further into the enemy's territory than any other generation may have done before, we shall move on as one camp. We will share in their victories; bring up the supply lines; tend to the wounded, and occupy and restore the Land as it is being reclaimed in battle.

Keep your eyes on Jesus as you intercede for His young warriors, for they hear His voice today and are obeying His command in ways that will confound their generation. Many of the young adult believers in Israel across the nation have already committed themselves to a weekly fast, as one body, fighting for the souls of those who turned away from God as well as for the harvest. Soon, we'll see similar resolve spreading to other "hot spots" around the world as these "sons and daughters of thunder" as they were called at The CALL today catch the fire and swing their sickles, bringing in the harvest.
