His battle = Our offering
The children of Ephiam, being armed and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle
The word translated above as "battle" in Psalm 78:9 is the same Hebrew word used in Leviticus 2 and translated as "offering".
If our lives are to be a sweet aroma of offering unto our Messiah, we must willingly take the path He puts before us, regardless of the battle, trusting that He has won the victory.
In this way we can enjoy His sweet satisying companionship (Psalm 25:14), His comfort and His hope. Unlike those who must depend on their own strength and accomplilshments, our hope is confident expectation since it is based in Himself - His promises and His word.
Christ in us, the confident, expectant, hope of glory.
